CEL Expands Reach Into the IoT, Opens New 16,000 square foot Facility and Design Center Near Chicago
Release No. CEL162
Santa Clara, Calif. — April 5, 2016 — CEL (California Eastern Laboratories) proudly announces the opening of a new state-of-the-art 16,000 square foot facility and design center in Buffalo Grove, IL. The new location is a cornerstone of CEL's initiative to capitalize on its rapid growth and success in IoT. It serves as the hardware complement to CEL’s Colorado design center, which opened in 2015 to support embedded software, mobile applications and cloud development.
The location showcases CEL’s Cortet Connectivity Suite, which combines radios, software, mobile applications and cloud connectivity. Demo lounges and larger meeting spaces are side-by-side with expanded engineering labs to create a hands-on, interactive environment.
The new building includes a state-of-the-art anechoic chamber and screen room, allowing CEL to perform extensive antenna characterization and FCC-related RF emissions screening for internal and customer-sponsored programs alike. Temperature chambers, thermal reflow ovens and an ESD (electrostatic discharge) station round out the facility's test and qualification capabilities. Rapid prototyping setups, including a CNC (computerized numerical control) tooling machine, a 3D printer, a mini-CNC (for generating double sided PCB's) and a full machine shop are also based in Buffalo Grove, further advancing the design center's mechanical engineering capabilities.
The Buffalo Grove facility continues CEL's long tenure in the Chicagoland area. The company originally established a presence in Chicago to support the cellular industry in the late 1990s; as CEL's focus has shifted to support the explosive IoT market, the need to expand to a location closer to heart of the Chicago metropolitan area became more apparent. Closer access to O'Hare International Airport - as well as to the wealth of engineering talent in the area - were critical factors when choosing the new location.
Overall, CEL's new Buffalo Grove design center will allow the company to provide outstanding service and support to customers and partners alike.
